Actually, I don't look at messages for a very practical and very good reason:
The hex map is cryptic and professional-looking, but man, the plane images on the plane charts are one big giveaway... Scrolling down to look at the messages exposes them on the left ===> So if I look at messages, people at work immediately recognize I'm playing a game...
[For the same reason, I seldom look at the opponent's maneuvers and am extremely thankful of the hover function that tells me what the opponent did last turn]
