Any experienced player is more than welcome to wander past as a visiting flight instructor to chip in with specific advice or just general opinions.

Any inexperienced player(s) feel free to watch and learn how not to do things

Since in-game (or off site) communication is not acceptable, there is rarely real teamwork even in squadron games. Every pilot is essentially on his/her own. When you see a "many to 1", it is more of a coincident than a planned move.

Few pointers:
  • Are you going to engage or wait and see? If you want to fight, then go in. Otherwise stay back and wait for targets of opportunity. Waiting is easier on big maps.
  • If you don't have fuel, stay back and let the enemies come to you.
  • Try to avoid head on attacks unless you have many engine boxes. Try to zoom pass the enemies and turn back using restricted or high speed turn.
  • Always tail an enemy. Otherwise tail a friendly who could be tailing an enemy. You can guess what the enemy plane is doing by the move of a friendly.
  • Try to survive till the end.
  • If the situation degenerates to a "many vs you", don't engage! Keep up the speed to use up the fuel, then retire with honor. At times just retire on your edge anyway even if you still have fuel.
  • If you are on fire, try to get away from the fight using higher speed evasive moves FIRST. Then worry about the fire fighting moves when you are safer. Try working toward your map edge as well in case you need to retire in a hurry.

  • From ksnake's teachings: fly near your map edge. That way you can get our easily if you are crippled.

  • Copy dcr66 said, acutally from my experience the only way you could learn is from continous playing and observing other experienced pilot flying.

If you see ksnake/dcr66/bluedragon/me or some other pilot which don't mind table talk for non-league/ non- tournament game, you could ask for other opinion after move, but bare the following point.

    1. You could asked comment of your last move, but general speaking it is not polite to asked other's move unless clear written in the game setup or during the 1st few turn of the game.

    2. You could also asked once you have been killed as it won't affect the games.

But again, table talk is strictly restricted in tournament/league play. And some players is very against the idea in strict sense. Even "hi"/ "good luck all" may make them annoyed.

For League game, I usually only write in the the league score page, and would NEVER write inside any individual game, especially for tournament play.

    Hope this help.

    Enjoy flying in the sky.

    i.

totally true - this is the experiment to see what we can learn to improve our flying by actively talking about moves in a way that normally would be frowned upon (normally it wouldn't be sporting to plan the moves based on other players moves) but in a 'school' situation the coach can say 'there is a weakness there, go exploit/defend it' or a player can say - you can see I've gone left twice after you shot me - perhaps that's a rudder jam, you can guess I'm going left again (or whatever).
