April 26th 2007: Major Wooden Ships and Iron Men update

We updated the Wooden Ships and Iron Men game engine. It is still in beta, but a lot of new features are now available:
  • Added History. You can now backtrack in time and see the situation of the game in every turn, for finished and active games.
  • Added smoke icons to show which broadside had fired (black smoke) and which one you are going to reload (grey smoke).
  • Changed the statistic page, now similar to the main site ones.
  • Added icons in the events log.
We also have a restricted beta testing for the Basic rules version of the game. Here's the list of Basic rules that are not in the simplified version:
  • Drifting: Whenever the bow hex of a ship does not change or is not plotted to change for two consecutive movement execution phases, during the second phase the ship will drift one hex in the direction the wind is blowing.
  • Grappling: any ship that occupies a hex adjacent to a hex occupied by another ship, friendly or unfriendly, fouled or unfouled, may attempt to grapple. Grappled ships can start melee.
  • Boarding parties: Ships which have been fouled or successfully grappled may form boarding parties if desired. These parties may attempt to take over an enemy ship or defend against a take-over in the melee phase. Or they can be moved between two friendly ships.
  • Melee: boarding parties may attempt to capture opposing ships, or defend themselves.
  • Ship Capture: ships that lose in the melee phase or does not have defending crew can be captured by enemy boarding parties.
Try it and tell us what you think,
